Our Well Kept Real Ales...
No visit to the Lake District would be complete without sampling at least one of the locally renowned Jennings ales, brewed locally in Cockermouth. Here at the Horse & Farrier, we always serve a wide selection of cask conditioned ales from this local brewery, as well as two guest beers from elsewhere in the country. There are usually six real ales served at any one time.

Jennings Sneck Lifter
An award winning beer, receiving a Bronze at the 2005 Brewing Industry International Awards held in Munich. A strong, satisfying ale, wonderfully warming and full of complex flavours, which create an intriguing beer of great character.
From time to time we also serve:-
Jennings La'al Cockle Warmer
A strong mellow ruby coloured ale, with a well balanced flavour of malt made from Maris Otter barley and the finest English aromatic hops. A wonderful winter ale - ideal to warm the cockles of your heart on a cold winter's night.
"Art thou the bird whom man loves best, the piou bird with the scarlet breast" - William Wordsworth.
Brewed with two English whole cone hops and natural coloured malt giving a chestnut red hue to the beer. Redbreast drinks with a full flavour and a warming glow.
A clean, easy drinking beer with a light golden colour, full bodied flavour and a pronounced hop character which has been obtained by the use of Golding variety hops. This balances the characteristics that are produced with the use of malt (made from Maris Otter barley) and a blend of coloured malt which belies it's ABV of 4.3%.
